For a business owner, social media can be a great place to market your business, products and social media. As a Social Media Manager in Ottawa Valley, I know that while it’s important to show up on social media in an authentic way, often overthinking what you should and should not post can lead to not posting anything at all…so I want to try and make it easy for you.
Here are 3 types of content you should never post on your social media:
Negative comments or concerns about your customers, clients or competitors. Also, resist the urge to “fire back” if a dissatisfied customer complains on your post. Emotionally charged reactions are never a good look. Opt for a respectful exchange and offer to take the conversation to a more personal space like a phone call or email.
Overselling services. If you are constantly promoting your service or selling your product, you could be making a key mistake- not connecting with your audience. People want to see “behind the scenes” of a business or brand these days, so be sure to include personal, fun, relaxed content that humanizes your brand too. In addition, offering free value and relevant content is important to maintain your audience.
Content inconsistent with your brand. Social media is a representation of your brand and business. It’s important to continue to have that front of mind whenever you are planning your posts. Consider what values, brands and core beliefs you want to represent, and make sure it aligns with your social media presence.
When you use Social Media for Your Business, it's important to always remember your ideal client. Yes, your audience wants to know, like and trust you, so sharing some personal "behind the scenes" of your life and business can be a great way to connect with them! Just keep in mind these 3 types of content you should avoid posting.
